Why Kumi?
The Iron Swords War brought into sharp focus the gaps created by the absence of women at the highest levels of political and security leadership—in decision-making processes and in the management of both the front lines and the home front. At the same time, the war underscored women’s critical contributions to crisis management behind the scenes: building resilience, establishing emergency operations centers to provide immediate responses, and managing social services. From then until today, women’s contributions—alongside the many stories of heroism by civilian women and women fighters—have proven that women’s place in centers of decision-making and positions of influence is essential.
The Goals
-
Strengthening the Western Negev and Eastern Galilee communities through women’s leadership.
-
Increasing women’s presence in key roles in the public and business sectors.
-
Creating networking and collaborations within communities and across the region.
-
Developing entrepreneurship and project management that will lead the region to recovery.

My life-long dream was to earn a bachelor’s degree. Since about age 20 that dream has burned inside me, but life got in the way. There always seemed to be a reason why not now. Thanks to Kumi at age 48 I stopped with the excuses and started my first semester at Sapir College this spring. I am now on my way to a degree.
Ronit Timsit, KUMI Sderot alumna

KUMI truly lived up to its name and called to me to get up! The meetings, the inspiration from whole range of strong and different womenin my community gave me the courage and the push to start my project: Solika by the Sea.
